High-consistency cleaner

High-throughput pulp cleaner designed for primary purification of thick pulp in pulping line front-end

The high-consistency cleaner is a centrifugal impurity-removal device tailored for the pre-treatment stage of papermaking pulping lines, specifically designed to process high-concentration pulp slurries (with consistency typically ranging from 3.0% to 6.0%). As a key piece of primary purification equipment, it focuses on separating large, heavy contaminants from thick pulp to reduce the burden of downstream fine-purification devices and protect core pulping machinery from abrasion or blockage.

Core Structure & Working Principle

  1. Basic Structure

A typical high-consistency cleaner features a robust, conical-cylindrical housing (often lined with wear-resistant rubber or ceramic to withstand impact from large impurities), three functional ports, and an internal flow-guiding structure. The three ports include a tangential inlet (for high-pressure pulp feeding), a top accepts outlet (for impurity-free pulp discharge), and a bottom rejects outlet (for collecting separated contaminants). Unlike low-consistency cleaners, it has a wider cone angle and a larger inlet diameter to accommodate the thicker, less fluid high-consistency pulp.

  2. Operational Mechanism

High-concentration pulp is pumped into the cleaner at high velocity through the tangential inlet, generating a powerful rotational vortex flow inside the housing. Driven by strong centrifugal force, large and dense impurities (such as sand, metal fragments, uncrushed wood chips, and coarse bark debris) are flung outward to the housing wall. These heavy contaminants slide down along the tapered cone surface to the bottom rejects outlet for centralized disposal, as their weight prevents them from being drawn into the central vortex. Meanwhile, the lighter pulp fibers, which maintain suspension in the central flow, rise to the top accepts outlet and flow to subsequent pulping processes (e.g., screening or refining). The high pulp consistency ensures a high processing throughput per unit time, while the device’s structural design minimizes fiber loss during purification.

Key Functions & Application Scenarios

  • Primary Impurity Removal: Targets large, heavy contaminants in the early pulping stage, preventing damage to downstream precision equipment like refiners and vibrating screens and reducing overall line maintenance costs.
  • High Throughput Processing: Its compatibility with thick pulp enables higher hourly pulp handling capacity compared to low-consistency cleaners, making it ideal for large-scale pulping production lines.
  • Energy Efficiency: Processing high-consistency pulp reduces the volume of water that needs to be pumped and treated, lowering the overall energy consumption of the pulping purification section.
  • Raw Material Adaptability: Suitable for various pulp types, including virgin wood pulp, recycled pulp, and non-wood pulp (e.g., straw, bamboo), and is commonly used in the pre-purification of pulp before fine screening.
